Sunim Koh (KR) Voyager, 2017-2020

Sunim Koh. Voyager series. Oil on canvas pad, 42×56 cm, 2017-2020

Sunim Koh comments on her current works:

Sunim Koh doesn’t think deeply about her work at that time. She captures what she sees and feels in her daily life. Recently, she travelled to various places in Korea, abroad and participated artist-in-residence programmes abroad. She met many artists who were showing her different art world, local cultures, local people’s daily life. She is inspired by new and diverse experiences.

Many places are changing a lot nowadays. She feels different than she used to there. Also, her way of thinking is different than before.

I think that each new experience we have is changing us a little and making yourselves the way we are at each moment.
I am glad to be together in this exhibition with you.

I like the juxtapositions of bold lines against vivid colors and imagery. The transitions aren’t subtle and kind of commands your attention to focus on areas separately so as to designate different areas of interpretation throughout the work. I also like how the bold lines simplify the complexity of pattern. Visually engaging work!
