Andréa Stanislav was born and grew up in Chicago, USA. She is currently based in New York City, and since 2018 also works in Bloomington, Indiana as an Associate Professor of Sculpture, and Affiliate Faculty with the Russian and Eastern European Institute, at Indiana University. She has worked in St. Petersburg, Russia, since 2014, and often as artist in residence at SPAR, on several projects including project - “Radio Leningrad - Forget Your Past”; and continues creative collaborations and research with the Museum of Cosmonautics, Moscow. Ms. Stanislav's hybrid practice spans sculpture, immersive multimedia installation, video, and public art. She received an MFA from Alfred University, New York; and a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Solo exhibitions and public projects I've been realized that the following venues: The Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art; The Russian Museum of Art, (TMORA), US; St. Louis Art Museum; Museum of Cosmonautics, Moscow; Museum of Non-Conformist Art, St. Petersburg; Center for Digital Arts, TelAviv; Kuryokhin Museum of Modern Art, St. Petersburg; Socrates Sculpture Park, NYC; Minneapolis Institute of Arts; Weisman Art Museum; 21c Museum, Louisville; Cynthia Corbett Gallery; Bruno David Gallery; Melissa Morgan Fine Art; and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art amongst others. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including: National Center of Contemporary Art Residency Award, (NCCA), St Petersburg, Russia; The Freund Visual Artist Fellowship, Washington University; Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Residency, NYC; McKnight Artists Fellowship for Visual Arts; and a Jerome Emerging Artist Fellowship.
