Looking Outside from the Inside, Cynthia Fusillo

After more than 30 days inside I am beginning to see the “outside” differently…more like a movie still. Every night at 8pm everyone comes out on their terrace claps for the Health workers and greets each other..It is my only social event all day!! I must say it is interesting how after being here for 17 years in this space I never interacted with anyone from my terrace..(the silver lining of this pandemic).

In the Inside I am still using Nature as my inspiration. The print on this dress was done directly with leaves that I found outside my studio at an artist residency in Rorá. Italy, Stoneoven House Residency. The abstract pieces are from a series made out of Chinese characters which I transformed into another language.

Beautiful work. I love the perspective of connecting on balconies.

I heard about this beautiful and warming ritual from a friend of mine who lives in Italy. It’s so interesting how self isolation gives us new optics to look at our surrounding, our homes, and our neighbours. This reminds me of a photo I recently saw on Facebook showing the new format of the Swedish tradition of having coffee with neighbours: https://www.facebook.com/swedense/photos/a.10151170980049720/10158054311514720/?type=3&theater
