Componets of the birth of a painting, Natalia Gourova
Four components contribute to the birth of a painting – the intention, the charge, the focus and the concept of accidental. The intention is incised by inspiration, the result of knowledge and a constant search, but it can also be influenced by something completely random. Unlike charging, mental or emotional, the intention of the artist’s expression is continuous, like breathing. Emotions regulate the pulse. The accidental on the other hand is often associated with the fact that the mind does not completely control the hand, which works in painting as an autonomous tool. The thought may be following the act, because the hand is already aware. The last is also an evidence of the fact, that a painting cannot be subject to any rule, and it also doesn’t tolerate limits and boundaries. Concentration means separation and deviation from anything, which might disturb the deep searching of mind. That is why the Art is never a proclamation, but an individual expression.
The title (subject) is thus slowly developing through the process of action, lonely, absolute, erotic and never planned to details. It is the piece of art which comes first, and then the subject is following. It is born and following through the painting process, with further analysis of the elements. The issue addressed by an artist corresponds to his/her direction of mind, approaches and perceptions, all of which formulate a private, individual network of meanings and emotions, directly related to the artist subconscious.
Α thematic unit is a larger set, a deeper concept, which includes related subjects, individually selected by the artist. A unit summarises in fact aspects of the artist’s individuality at a specific time and place. The place and the time can be overtaken, since time is virtually non-existent, while the place, inner, self-contained and free of boundaries is accessible to the one who will see and feel.
The clearer the thought and the more opened the soul, the more convenient the dialogue with the viewer. Each piece of art is an invitation, a call for participation in mind and action.
This dialogue, deep and silent, which at the same time is a call for creation and self-awareness, a call to balance and to rupture, condenses all the beauty of Art, extending the boundaries of paintings beyond the canvas, and making them shareholder of the invisible world, of every viewer, who is intended to see and see.
