URBAN ASPECTS / Quarantine – 18 Iara Abreu

DELIVERY has never been so present and necessary in our lives!

Our daily customs and procedures have been modified.

We are known as the city of restaurants and night bars, with a lot of good music, a rich and diverse gastronomy, the result of a mixed culture of diverse peoples and immigration throughout the times as in the whole Brazilian territory. We have Italian, Arab, Japanese communities and so many other peoples who have been part of our history.

We have as customs and tradition, meet in bars, after work, on weekends and at any time, where we can talk to friends, poets, writers, co-workers and even to talk business. They are moments of relaxation and very pleasurable, which were taken from us at this time of quarantine by Covid-19. It is a time of solitude, of loss for the economy, especially for the small entrepreneur; for workers who have lost their jobs; and, for informal workers and micro-enterprises who are a huge portion of the population, that generate business and make the economy in this city and throughout the country.

Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais, is a Brazilian city of approximately 2,700,000 inhabitants, only 122 years old. It is a city planned and surrounded by the Serra do Curral of great natural importance. We don’t have beaches, but we do have beautiful parks, waterfalls; a rich fauna and flora; a diverse architecture, where the ancient and contemporary of Oscar Niemayer mix; and an intense cultural life with museums, theaters, cinemas, various musical segments and various cultural activities offered to the population.

We hope that all of this will pass as soon as possible and that these moments of meetings in bars will return and that the economy will recover.

18   BARES E RESTAURANTES, antes e durante a pandemia

Interesting article. I agree our lives are being modified and it’s hard to believe how much activity has died down since the pandemic. COVID has taken so much of our social interaction & business operation, which may have been taken for granted. Begs the question will we return to normal or is this the new normal. Great post!

      Hello Crystal Marshall
Hard to even think about what it will be like when the pandemic passes. I don’t know if the normal will return or the normal will be different and modified. Thanks for the comment.
