Struggle, Nanda Raemansky

Symptoms of COVID19: Borderline policies. Acrylic on canvas, 115 x 75 cm

Sometimes making a painting can be a real struggle, just like it was with this one, but I am happy how it turned out. It breaths the atmosphere I was aiming at and gives a pretty good impression of the emptyness of this landscape.

With the second corona wave rapidly grasping around here in the Netherlands, I can only hope it won’t lead to another lockdown and that my loved ones will be safe. But, if they lock the border the same way they did last time, this borderpassage is definetly not gonna keep me out.

Really liking the vibrancy of the palette, as well as the shapes and forms. I feel a directional pull in the work, in that there’s a message to tell. What looks like a ladder or path seems to pointing at the unknown, towards the horizon. I can definitely relate doing a painting whilst under any kind of stress or pressure is really hard. Nice work!

      Crystal, right!
The pallette is crazy, rich and straight at the same time. And you know, I love acrilic paint here. It usually look unnaturally, although Nanda can use it well

Thank you Crystal! I really had a struggle with the dept. I wanted to avoid the painting becoming to shouty, but at the same time it needed more contrast to create that spacious sensation. Dilemma’s, dilemma’s…but I am very happy with the final result 🙂

Me too, I like the results. I definitely sense the spatial tension, which is suitable for the theme you are going for.

    Hi Nanda,
Looking at your painting I remembered some abstract works of Kandinsky. They taste also nervous and contrastful. Why did stay in Belgium, sorry?

Wow, Kandinsky that’s quite a comparison. Thank you Nazar! 🙂
